Timing, Understanding, and Patience, Pt. 2

A few posts ago, I mentioned the importance of timing and purposeful assignments. I believe timing plays a major role in success. I also believe that we must have understanding and patience to follow along with timing. This is so that we know why we need to be in a certain place and how to reach our potential for that assignment upon arrival. I wanted to share a story I found on Instagram about a young professional basketball player.

A young man named QJ Peterson recently shared his story during the NBA Summer League with the New York Organization. He talked about speaking with the head coach, giving him advice on what to do to be considered for a roster spot in the NBA. Because he isn't a tall player, he had to give a lot of energy and effort on the court. This was to make up for his lack of size. While he was invited to work out with the Knicks during the Summer League, he was told he wouldn't receive much playing time. This is because the organization wanted the younger players to get the experience they needed.

He decided to work with the team. He took the advice to give maximum effort and energy on the court no matter how long he played. He soon played more minutes, and developed a reputation as a reliable worker and leader. He even spoke of how he encouraged his teammates to give the same effort and energy, and won a couple of games in the process. This application of the advice given to him placed him in a position to have multiple coaches looking at him, and put him on a lot of teams' radars.

I wish nothing but the highest for this young man. However, this story also shows us how timing, understanding, and patience opened the doors for him to step into a place he may not have thought of. Not only does he gain experience for his professional career, but he can catapult himself into a highly valuable asset to an organization. This is because of some acquired skills he learned in the process. This is a great example of how taking risks can pay off, and how the seemingly small steps we take can lead to great opportunities. It's a reminder to always stay open to possibilities and seize the moment when it presents itself.

We can look at many examples in the Bible that speak to this same storyline. Two of my favorites, especially after spending more time with them are Joseph and Abraham. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers, yet God used his adversity to save his people. Similarly, Abraham was asked to leave his home and family, and yet God blessed him and gave him a legacy. Both stories demonstrate that whatever opportunity presents itself, we can come out of it with an improved skill, mindset, or strengthened faith in our destiny.

These stories show that no matter what happens, if we trust God, He will turn our hardships or unfavorable situations into something good. We should not be discouraged by our current struggles, but instead take them as an opportunity to grow and learn. We may not understand why these things happen to us, but He will use them for His own purposes. He will equip us with the strength and courage to see us through our trials. He will never leave us and He will never fail us.

A wall of clocks.
